When Jolynn thought she might be having a stroke back in June, she never imagined the difficult road ahead. What began as testing for stroke symptoms quickly turned into a fall that broke her hip, multiple surgeries, and a painful wound that required complex care.
Her journey took her through several hospitals and facilities. Along the way, she faced setbacks, infections, and even a stay in the ICU where she was intubated and her kidneys temporarily stopped working. Through it all, she held onto hope that she would find the right place to recover.
That place ended up being Boyd Memorial Hospital’s Swing Bed program.
“I absolutely love it here. Everybody is the sweetest people — the nurses, the CNAs, the housekeepers. I’m getting the wound care I need, and it’s starting to heal. They’re right on time with my dressing changes. I feel like I’m getting individual care here.”
She also noticed the difference in the pace and attention of her care. “Up in Springfield, sometimes I only got my dressing changed once instead of twice a day. Here, everything is on time. The food is good. Everything runs smoothly. I can’t say enough good about this.”
Even though she is away from her hometown and family, she says being at Boyd gives her peace of mind. “I love it here. It feels so homey. I know this will probably help me heal faster because I’m not stressed. Now it’s like I have hope here.”
Her journey hasn’t been easy, but she says Boyd is helping her take steps forward. “I can’t go back and change anything. I can only go forward — and here at Boyd, I finally feel like I can.”
